Becoming a part of the family at Cedar Hill Baptist Church...
Do I have to “join” the church to become involved in the fellowship of Cedar Hill?
We enjoy a number of different levels of commitment from those who attend
Cedar
Hill
Baptist
Church. Some of the people with us on Sunday are “seekers.” They are looking for a church home but have not yet decided where the Lord wants them. There are those with us you might call “regular attenders.” These folks attend faithfully the services of the church and may even be involved in various areas of church life, but have never come forward to make the commitment of membership officially. Another group might be referred to as “active members.” These are folks who have joined the fellowship, making Cedar Hill the place where they give of their time (attending services and discipleship opportunities), talents (using their talents and spiritual gifts in ministry), and treasure (giving financially to support the work of the church) for the sake of God’s kingdom. We appreciate all three groups of people the Lord has in our midst.
So, you don’t have to officially join the church in order to become involved in the fellowship, but our hope is that “seekers” and “regular attenders” will one day come forward to make the commitment of membership.
Why is it so important to “officially” join the church?
Hopefully, coming forward to “officially” join the church is something the Lord will lead you to do, as He has so many in others in our fellowship. This allows for us to corporately share our excitement and joy in having you become a part of our family.
I am already enrolled in a Sunday School class. Doesn’t that mean I’m a church member?
Enrolling in a Sunday School class is a great way to find out more about the fellowship and get hooked into the life of the church. However, enrollment in a Sunday School class is not the same as membership in the church, though it is a first step!
Isn't getting saved and joining the church the same thing?
No. A person is saved apart from their relationship to the church. Joining the church, following a salvation experience, is a means of publicly professing what previously took place in a person’s life.
Are there any requirements for joining the church?
Membership in
Cedar
Hill
Baptist
Church is open to anyone who
1) Has come to know Jesus Christ in a personal way as Savior and Lord
2) Has been baptized by immersion (immersed completely under water) in an orthodox church
We receive members into the fellowship by one of the following ways:
1) By statement of faith
2) By profession of faith and baptism
3) By transfer of letter from another Baptist church
What is the process of joining the fellowship?
1) Make your desire to join the fellowship known by…
- Checking the appropriate box on the flap attached to Sunday morning’s bulletin (you may place it in the offering plate; or after services, give it to the pastor, or hand it to one of our ushers)
- Calling or emailing the church
- Coming down to altar during invitation time, expressing your desire to join
2) Someone will then contact you, setting up a time at your convenience to meet. In this meeting the pastor (or other staff) and another church member will come and answer any questions you might have about our church, discuss with you the various ways we receive members into the fellowship, and share with you in more detail what making the commitment of membership is all about. Once this takes place…
3) All that is left is for you to come forward during the invitation time of a Sunday morning worship service so that the church might officially affirm and welcome you into the fellowship.
